Shankar gifted to Tamil cinema

Most of us think of Shankar as a director who produces the biggest and grandest films that Indian cinema has seen. Yes, he is a director of great accomplishments. But, it is time we also started recognizing the visionary producer that he is. The number of novel and path-breaking ventures that he has produced over the years tells a tale by themselves. He loves cinema and is ready to back new efforts and more importantly, new people. How many directors has he introduced to the big screen over the years, how many youngsters have got their big break through his films, how much talent has blossomed under the S Pictures banner. Go ahead and find out for yourselves. Not everything has been covered here, like the fact that he is the first and only producer to date who achieved the impossible - casting K. Balachander and Bharathiraja in a film.Today, he ranks right up there amongst the top five composers in Kollywood. But, his journey too started with a Shankar production. Veyil was made in 2006 and it gave opportunities to many people, most of all – it’s director Vasantha Balan and composer G.V. Prakash. Shankar’s stature could have easily fetched a leading experienced composer for the film, but he gave the opportunity to a deserving youngster. It was literally ‘Veyilodu Vilaiyaadi’ for G.V. Prakash who grabbed the opportunity and never looked back.

Muthaiyah muralidharan announced retirement from test

Sri Lankan spin bowler, Muttiah Muralitharan, is going to take retirement from Test cricket. This veteran player has already announced officially that the Test match against India inGalle will be his final test match for Sri Lanka. However, he is yet to announce his ODI retirement. Perhaps he will end his cricketing career after taking part in the upcoming ICC World Cup next year.
According to his announcement, he will quit the oldest format of cricket game, Test, after taking part in the opening match of the home Test series that will start from July 18, 2010. The reason of taking retirement has been revealed through the speech of his manager, who said that Murali is physically unable to take the vigorous demand of a five-day match. He is almost at the end of his career.
Thirty-eight year-old Muralitharan decided to take retire from Test Cricket during the West Indies series in November, but he had to move the date up for an upcoming Indian series.
No doubt, it will not be an easy work to find a suitable replacement for him for the 2011 World Cup. That is why, national selectors don’t want to leave him. They want Muralitharan to be around if they cannot find a suitable replacement.
The announcement of Muttiah Muralitharan’s retirement came as shocking news for Sri Lankan cricket team. On the other hand, it came as a blessing for other test playing nations.
Australian skipper, Michael Clarke, said that a lot of batsmen around the world will be happy to think that they won’t have to face him anymore.
Muttiah Muralitharan also made controversy in cricket after becoming expert in doosra. His technique became controversial as many complained that it was impossible to bowl the delivery legally.
Fans should remember him not only as the leading wicket taker of ODI and Test cricket but also for his bowling action.

Australia Vs Pakistan.2nd test preview

Pakistan cricket team will take on Australia in the final of the two-match Test series on 21st November 2010. This match will be held at Leeds. This match is scheduled to begin at 09:30 GMT and 10:30 local time. Pakistan will try hard to win the match as they are trailing the series 0-1 after losing the first match by 150 runs in Lord’s. On the other hand,Australia will try to whitewash Pakistan winning the last match too.
Pakistan has crucial test history against Australia. Since 1999 Pakistan could not manage to get any victory againstAustralia. Their last victory against the same opponent was in November 1995 at Sydney. The interesting this is that since 1995 Pakistan cricket was led by 12 captains and soon it will be 13. On the other hand, Australia was captained by four captains where Ricky Ponting is still doing his job as captain.
Australia defeated Pakistan in all 12 test matches. If they can manage one more victory then it will be 14 tests victoryin a row. No doubt, this victory will add salt to their woe.
It is going to be a tough challenge for new Pakistan captain, Salman Butt, who was handed over the captaincy for the remaining test match against Australia. Shahid Afridi, who was given captaincy for the two-month long tour, has resigned from captaincy at the midst of the series afterPakistan suffered a humiliating defeat at the hand ofAustralia. He has already announced that the test match against Pakistan at Leeds will be his final test match.
Salman Butt is the most important batsman of Pakistancricket team. He scored 63 and 92 in two innings of the first test match and awarded player of the match jointly along with Australian player Simon Katich. Butt has good performance against Australia averaging 47.14 against them in Tests compared to an overall career mark of 32.75.
Bowling all rounder Steven Smith and wicketkeeper Tim Paine made their Test debut at Lord’s and performed well. It will be expected that these two players will keep important role behind Australia’s series victory.
The injuries of Ben Hilfenhaus and Marcus North have put the Australian cricket team under problem. Australian cricket team may select team without naming their names. Ben Hilfenhaus hurt his shoulder during the fielding in the first test match. On the other hand, Marcus North couldn’t take part in the training on Monday due to his illness.
The news of Ben Hilfenhaus’ improvement from injury has given boost to the Australian cricket team.
Let’s see if Salman Butt can lead the new-look Pakistancricket team successfully against Australia. It will be interesting to see if Shahid Afridi makes a memorable farewell.

Australia Vs Pakistan

Australia have finally managed to win a couple of sessions on a trot. After a horrendous Day 1 they have fought their way back into this Test match and have opened things up heading into Day 3. Pakistan would be disappointed with their batting effort, after being 222/5 at one stage, they let things slip underneath by losing their last 5 wickets for just 36 runs. They started off well with the ball picking up Katich very early but it has been a struggle since. Although they managed to prize out Watson, Ponting and Clarke have looked rock solid to pull things back in Australia's favour. Lets hope that the ghosts of Sydney don't come back to haunt the Pakistanis, who would be looking to make some early inroads tomorrow. Can the Aussies defy the pace trio of Asif, Aamer and Gul to post a sizeable lead? Do join us tomorrow to find out.

Suriya and Jyothika

Hey friends ,This is very interesting, that -Suriya and Jyothika’s new born son has been named! The naming ceremony was a very private affair with only family and close friends attending it. When everyone was expecting the couple to name their son that means light or brightness, they have named him Dev.It may be recalled that when the actor was questioned about when he would name his son, he had replied their family would consult their astrologer and name him on an auspicious day. With the naming ceremony taking place after a month of Dev’s birth, it indicates that Suriya and family had indeed been waiting for an auspicious day.

Fake mark sheets

The police have finally zeroed in on two persons and have arrested them in connection with the fake mark sheet case, which shook Tamil Nadu a couple of days ago. About 41 students had submitted fake mark sheets during the engineering counseling and following this, the Examinations Board director Vasundara Devi filed a complaint with the police. Five teams, headed by the Criminal Branch Assistant Commissioner Sridhar and Additional Assistant Commissioner Venkateswaran were formed to trace the criminals.

In the first phase of investigations, the police have arrested Ekambaram (57) a Record Clerk at the Collegiate Education Department Directorate at the DPI office. His accomplice Thiruvengadam, a Asistant Head Master at the Kannamangalam Government Girls Higher Secondary School, was also arrested at the DPI office.

The police say that they suspect several officials are involved in this racket and would arrest them soon.

Councelling

Forty-two engineering colleges have been sanctioned by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for Tamil Nadu. The state currently has 454 engineering colleges and this year alone the AICTE received 121 applications to start an engineering college. Out of this, 121 applications, 42 have passed the eligibility criteria and have been given the go-ahead.

With the addition of these new engineering colleges, 10,080 seats will be added to the existing seats.

Trisha missed

Trisha is currently in Europe to take part in the shooting of Kamal Haasan starrer Manmadhan Ambu. This film is being shot in a luxury cruise ship. The film crew was given the ship’s map in case they lose their way on this massive ship. However, when the shooting spot was changed from one location on the ship to another Trisha lost her way.

The actress’s mom, who was accompanying her, was worried and the film’s security personnel ran a thorough search throughout the ship. Finally, Trisha was traced at a shopping centre inside the ship.

Murali and his best

Spin genius Muttiah Muralitharan brought down the curtains on his Test career in a blaze of glory by becoming the first cricketer to scalp 800 wickets as Sri Lanka spanked India by ten wickets in the first Test here on Thursday.
The hosts had to sweat a bit to wrap up the remaining five wickets and dismiss the world's number oneteam for 338 in their second innings, a total largely built around gritty contributions from tailenders.
With rain clouds hovering over the stadium, the Sri Lankan openers Tillakaratne Dilshan (68 not out) and Tharanga Paranavitana (23 not out) showed great urgency to rattle up the required runs on the final day to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Dilshan brought about the victory in style by clobbering Harbhajan Singh for a mighty six as the Lankans raced to 96 no loss in just 14.1 overs to record their seventh 10-wicket win overall and the second against India.
Resuming at a precarious 181 for five, India lost captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (4) and Harbhajan Singh (8) in quick succesion but VVS Laxman (69) and a dogged resistance by tailenders Ahimanyu Mithun (25), Ishant Sharma (31 not out) and Pragyan Ojha (13) delayed the inevitable.
The late order fightback not only frustrated the hosts but helped India to avoid the ignominy of an innings defeat and take a slender lead to stretch the game beyond the tea break at the Galle International stadium.
Muralitharan hiumself played a key role in his swansong Test by scalping five wickets in the first innings and three in the second to take his overall tally to 800, thus becoming the first cricketer to achieve the remarkable feat.
India's capitulation was all the more shocking considering an entire day's play was washed out because of rain. While nothing great was expected from the depleted bowling attack, the failure of the star-studded batting line up hurt the team badly.
The two teams will now travel to Colombo for the second Test starting July 26 and another defeat could dislodge India from the number one position.
If Sri Lanka win the series 2-0, India would lose four rating points and come down to the third position behind South Africa. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will gain six points and become the number oneteam.
All eyes were on Muralitharan as the crowd and his teammates expected him to reach the 800-wicket mark quickly but the off-spinner could add just one more scalp to take his tally to 799 till the lunch break.
It was paceman Lasith Malinga who took two of the three wickets that fell in the opening session by removing India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Mithun.
Dhoni and Laxman resumed at overnight score of 181 for five and India's fate hinged much on their efforts with the bat. Malinga though shattered India's hopes by bowling out Dhoni with a beautiful yorker.
Muralitharan then trapped Harbhajan Singh (8) to trigger celebrations but the spirited resistance by the tailenders from then on raised hopes of an Indian escape.
Laxman, who was on nine overnight, on the other end was unruffled and frustrated the hosts with his fighting half-century.
His 49-run partnership with Mithun (25) for the eighth wicket and unfinished 68-run stand for the ninth wicket was crucial in saving India from the innings defeat.
After supporting Laxman for an hour, Mithun became the fifth victim of Malinga. Confronted with a screamer of a delivery, Mithun was no where in line and was adjudged plumb leg before.
After Mithun, Ishant showed the stomach for a fight and battled hard for India's cause.
Ishant (31 not out) became only the fourth batsman to face 100 or more balls in a Test innings while batting at number 10 position.
VVS Laxman (69) and Ishant resumed the post lunch session and raised a 68 run stand for the ninth wicket, the best at Galle International stadium. It bettered the previous 60-run stand between Rahul Dravid and Venkatesh Prasad.
Laxman's run out brought relief for the hosts but it left Muralitharan in a situation where only one wicket was on offer and he had to get that to complete his 800-wicket tally.
Laxman's fighting fifty had five fours and and ended in an unfortunate manner as he and Ishant went for a risky run.
Ojha joined the action after Laxman's dismissal and with Ishant he frustrated the hosts for another 15 overs.
Ishant survived two furious appeals off Muralitharan and a stump chance off Dilshan in his brave unbeaten innings.
The not out decision by third umpire on that stump chance was cheered by the crowd as it could have left Muralitharan stranded on 799 in his farewell Test.

Muralidharan acheives 800

Hey my dear friends I'd like to thank the president for coming to support me. Thanks to my wife and family for their support. To my team-mates, past and present, through the 19 years for supporting me... To the cricket board and officials, and everyone else." Well, thank YOU Murali!

"I started playing when I was 8 years old and I still listen to my coach from school days. Arjuna Ranatunga and de Silva and all those guys helped me through the tough times in 1995.. the umpires make their judgments through naked eye, so nothing against them.. I have no grudge against them and happy to have made it through the tough times. I always thought if something goes wrong I can bowl leg spin and continue playing cricket!"

"I'm available for the World Cup if the selectors need me. I want to play some more Twenty20 cricket. I made a lot of friends through cricket and sometimes my team-mates said I talk too much with opposition players!"
Tony Greig thanks the champ for all the memories and gives him three cheers!

Sangakara

Hi my dear friends .The first test match came to an end by India losing.Friends here is the Sri lankan captain Sangakkara speeches after the match: "From the start, winning the Test was the aim, that would have been the perfect send-off for Murali too. Pleased that he got to 800 and all the best to him. Malinga was truly the MoM, the way he bowled turned things around and made things easy for Murali and the rest.. Malinga's stand with Herath made a big difference. We must appreciate the groundsmen under Jayananda Warnaweera for his efforts.. on another ground, this match may not have been possible after all the rain."

India Vs SriLanka

Lanka managed to score a big total on the opening day of the 1st test against India: Sri Lanka reached 256 for two wickets before rain halted the first days play. Watch live scores and streaming of the 2nd days play.
Galle witnessed two records through this first day play as Tharanga made his maiden test hundred and Sangakkara recorded his 22nd test match. Live Ball by Ball scores
At the end of 1st day play Tharanga was on unbeaten 110 and Sangakkara hit his 103. Rain interrupted the first day’s play and eight overs were left in the final session.
Sangakkara was dropped by Captain Mahender Sing Dhoni on 65 as wicket keeper Dhoni failed to catch onto an edge. Both batsmen played well and gave a big run for Indian team fielders. Before tea break Sri Lanka captain reached his century quite effortless. Tharanaga was also dropped on 35 when Gautam Gambhir failed to hold onto a reflex catch.

Sangakkara was out from a bad ball from Virender Sehwag and Sachin did no mistake in catching it. Dilshan on 25 was another wicket came through a catch to Dhoni. This is a success to debutant test bowler of Indian team Abhimanyu Mithun.
Galle is looking forward to witness another record eagerly from Muralitharan through his final test appearance. If Muralitharan succeeds in taking 8 wickets in this test, then he will be the first 800 test

Vijay and GV prakash

Madarasapattinam contest were shown the film at Four Frames Preview Theatre in Chennai. It was evident after the show that all those present thoroughly enjoyed the film. Madarasapattinam’s director Vijay, music director GV Prakash and actor Balaji interacted with the audience soon after the show. Team Behindwoods.com gave all three a floral welcome.

To a question from the audience on why he chose Arya to play the role, Vijay jocularly remarked that it was Arya who chose him.

On how he chose Amy Jackson for the role, Vijay said that she had won the Teen Miss World contest and had sent in her details to him. He later went to London to sign her up.

GV Prakash’s music for Madarasapattinam was well-appreciated by the audience. Vijay requested that GV Prakash should refrain from working in the nights and opt for a working time that would suit all involved in a film.

One of that audience said that he never got emotional while watching a film, but this film had him in tears. The director seemed thoroughly pleased with this kind of response.

When Vijay questioned about how he managed to bring in the old Madras so beautifully on screen, he said that it was mainly due to computer graphics. He added that cameraman Nirav Shah also played a vital role in capturing the splendor of old Madras.

In all, it was wonderful journey to old Madras, which many of us never knew.

In this situation, senior players will have to play an important role. I hope that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will not try to do any kind of experiment and use more young players

Batting is perhaps a big problem for Pakistancricket team. Their top order batsmen were responsible for Pakistan’s defeat. At this moment, Pakistan cricket team needs good opening pair because good start in the opening stand can help the team to make a good chasing score. Recently, Pakistan selectors have axedtheir wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal from 3rd Test squad. I think it is a very bad decision. He is the only experienced wicketkeeper inPakistan cricket team. He is also a good batsman in the lower order position. I hope that they will include him again in the main squad for the final test match. No doubt, his performance in Sydneytest was disappointed to the cricket fan. But it does not mean that he can not get back his form. He is supposed to be replaced by Sarfraz Ahmed. Sarfraz Ahmed is a young player. He has not any experience to play test match. If he is selected then he will make his test debut against Australia.
There is no doubt that Pakistan cricket team has good bowling line up. Their bowlers are now continuously playing well. Even their destructive bowling action helps the team to bundle the opponent team in a short score. But I want to say that only strong side can not lead any team to win the match. Mohammad Asif is continuously taking wicket in every match. Young player Mohammad Aamir is also another future super star who is playing for Pakistan cricket team.
Australian cricket team should want to continue their success in all forms of cricket game. Their young players are also playing well. But I think that opening batting line up is perhaps a big problem for Australian cricket team also. Their ODI victory against Pakistan will help them to make a long distance with second placed teamIndia in the ODI ranking. Let us see if Pakistancan win the ODI series or not.
