Airports Authority of India

The Airports Authority of India has decided to do away with the 44 ‘bird scarers’, to ensure that the feathered friends stay off the airport runways. Every time they burst crackers to chase away winged visitors away. The jobs of several ‘bird scarers’ like 35-year-old Selvam who has been working at the airport since 1995, might lose it.

An airport official said, “As bird scarer, each of them must have been getting up to Rs 4,000 from the contractor and if they are made AAI employees their salaries will be definitely increased.
“The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security does not want to allow any explosive cracker after they found they found one inside a Kingfisher aircraft in Kochi. Now the Chennai airport has acquired modern equipment now. The instrument Ultima, makes crying sounds of animals warning them of danger and hence keeping them away.”

  1. This time that I have learned about a bird scaring job. Too bad the modern equipment for the airports will make this job obsolete.
